The Johns Hopkins University is a private research university in Baltimore Maryland. The university was founded on January 22 1876 and named for its benefactor the philanthropist Johns Hopkins the first campus was located on Howard Street. The Johns Hopkins University relocated to Homewood in northern Baltimore the estate of Charles Carroll the son of Charles Carroll of Carrollton the oldest surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence 1776. Carroll's Homewood House is considered one of the finest examples of Federal residential architecture.
